Curtis Simmons
Horn
Dr. Curtis Simmons is a private lessons teacher, an active performer, and a music professor in Austin, Texas. He received his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Horn Performance at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. Before that, Curtis graduated with his Master of Music in Horn Performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. While in Kansas City, he was a regular substitute musician with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra, performed a link up concert with members of the Kansas City Symphony and was a member of the UMKC Wind Symphony. Prior to Kansas City, Curtis started his undergraduate degrees at the University of Arkansas completing two Bachelor of Music degrees; Horn Performance and Music Theory. While at Arkansas Curtis was a substitute musician with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, the Tulsa Signature Symphony and the fourth horn for the Arkansas Philharmonic.
Curtis has been teaching in the Austin area since 2018 and is currently educating young horn players in the Leander ISD and Hutto ISD. In 2022 he became an adjunct professor at Concordia University Texas, teaching advanced conducting techniques. Curtis is a member of the Austin Brass Collective, serving on the board as the social media coordinator and webmaster.
Curtis enjoys spending his free time with his wife Ashlyn, their dog Penny, and their cat Prika.
